Words can only get you so far and he proved throughout the season that while at the press conferences he said one thing, behind closed doors he was doing just the opposite. For that fact his critics certainly have had a leg to stand on all season with the critiques of character. With that being said, checking himself into rehab displays a monumental first step into getting his life back on track. It goes beyond just saying you are going to change. It is physically and mentally creating clear and concise alterations to ones normal patterns of behavior. Yet even while making the right choice he is still being met with a wave of hate and intolerance. This highlights that no matter who you are or what you do there will still be a level of negativity someone is perpetuating at your expense. You will not satisfy everyone, but you certainly can satisfy yourself. The best anyone can do is utilize that opposition as fuel to increase their internal motivation to succeed.
To Manziel and those alike I wish them luck on their journey of self enlightenment and improvement. For those who wish to dig on people trying to make change I can not say it better than Torrey Smith of the Baltimore Ravens "Folks criticize Manziel for trying to get help and laugh at overweight people in the gym...they are trying to fix a problem support them smh"
